About Thomas R. Alward

Thomas R. Alward has practiced law in the Traverse City area since 1981, with a concentration in the areas of commercial transactions, creditor’s rights in bankruptcy, retail and commercial collections, and corporate and banking law. He earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, a Master’s Degree from the American Graduate School of International Management, and his law degree from the University of Toledo. Mr. Alward served on the Traverse City Area Public Schools Board of Education (President 1995 and 1997), was a director of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Traverse City Area Foundation Board, and is a member of the Traverse City Rotary Club.

Mr. Alward focuses his practice in the area of debtor-creditor rights and bankruptcy, with a particular emphasis on representing banks and other financial institutions in loan workouts, commercial bankruptcy cases, and troubled credit situations. Mr. Alward represents clients in the areas of creditor’s rights, bankruptcy, reorganization, and insolvency. He regularly represents secured and unsecured creditors in out-of-court workouts and in bankruptcy proceedings involving all types of businesses and collateral. Mr. Alward has documented numerous complex financial transactions including asset-based loans. He has extensive experience in counseling lenders on loan structure and securing collateral.
